Government Autonomous College, Phulbani



Government Autonomous College, Phulbani, established in the year 1960, is situated in the heart of a backward tribal district, Kandhamal in Odisha. It was a premier Institution in the erstwhile tribal district of Boudh and Phulbani under the nomenclature of Government Science College Phulbani. The College was originally affiliated to Utkal University, Bhubaneswar with subject affiliation of all major subjects in the faculties of Arts and Science. After the establishment of Berhampur University in 1967 in the South Zone of Odisha, the College was affiliated to this University under the nomenclature of Government College, Phulbani. It is recognized by the UGC Act under sections 2f & 12B from 1972 and conferred with autonomous status since 2004. While the institute primarily offers undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs, it also offers self-financing programmes such as BBA and BCA. The College was selected as a study centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU).
The college is imparting higher education to nearly 2300 students. Infrastructure, including classrooms and laboratories of Phulbani Government Autonomous College is well-regarded by students. While there are areas for improvement, particularly in hygiene and placement services, the institution remains a viable option for students in the region seeking quality education.
